Cardiac output measurement

Press Cardiac Output Mode

· position patient supine and flat

· check monitor programmed with correct: height, weight, Co-efficient and syringe size

· check that the thermistor cable is connected

· attach the injectate system to the proximal lumen and ensure that an adequate volume of 5% dextrose is available for Cardiac output measurements

v enter the following values into monitor

v Mean P.A.P. and A.P.

v P.C.W.P.

v C.V.P.

· Perform measurement

· draw up 10ml of 5% dextrose

· activate CO start button on peak inspiration and inject solution within 2 seconds

· inspect CO curve, looking for smooth rapid upstroke to peak and gradual down slope to baseline

· repeat CO procedure obtaining 3 measurements that are within 10% of the median valve

· Press HAEMO DATA STORE key to store C. O. values
